Please join us for our seminars and networking socials! Generally during the "academic calendar" year we host an evening seminar by an accomplished scientist on current topics relevant to our government-related roles in toxicology and other life sciences. Seminars are preceded by a buffett dinner or happy hour to allow an informal gathering and networking opportunity. Seminars are announced here and via email and social media. If you would like to receive email notifications of upcoming AGHES events, sign up here.
AGHES Sugarloaf Mountain Hike and Picnic
Sunday, July 24, 2022
Sugarloaf Mountain (18125 Comus Rd, Dickerson, MD)
(10 AM to 3 PM)
This event is POSTPONED due to the National Weather Service forcast for Code Red heat advisory conditions on Sunday, July 24. In the interest of safety to our members and their families, this event is postponed, and it will be re-scheduled, probably for early to mid-September.
This fun event is on July 24, when AGHES will be hosting its annual family event at Sugarloaf Mountain, a few miles northwest of Germantown, MD. Planned events include a choice of an easy or harder hike up the mountain, followed by a picnic on the ground of the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. Per Sugarloaf’s rules, our furry friends must be kept on leashes at all time.
For those who want to hike, we will meet at 10:00 AM at the Sugarloaf Mountain East View Parking Lot (see map below), to walk counter-clockwise on the easy and flat White Trail. At the McCormick Overlook, we'll have the option to split into two groups, one going straight to the top, and one that continues meandering around on the easy Blue Trail.
We will all converge on the winery at 12:15 PM for picnic and wine tasting. Bring a picnic to eat and share with others. AGHES will also provide some appetizers. There is wine tasting from 12:30-5:30 PM, a food truck (The Paella & Tapas Place). The grounds around the winery are beautiful and very serene, with plenty of grass for children to run around, and tables for the older crowd. This year, as an added benefit, people can (on their own initiative) participate in the “Yoga and Wine” with Kirsten Coffey from 12-1 PM right in the vineyard ($30). The rest of our members, who have satisfied their exercise needs through the walk, will have a head start with food and wine.
AGHES will provide a few selected wine bottles/wine testing for our members who will get to select at the venue – the treasurer will be on stand-by with the AGHES checkbook. You can RSVP on FaceBook, or by emailing us.
